Practice Overview:

Before starting his wealth management and insurance advisory practice in 1997, Bert practiced law for eleven years in the areas of tax, estate, and business planning. Although he is no longer a practicing attorney, his clients benefit from his knowledge of the law and the interplay between wealth management, insurance and tax planning, especially in the areas of estate planning, business succession planning, executive benefits, and charitable gift planning. He is a frequent speaker at regional and national industry meetings, and to local and regional professional advisor groups.

Bert provides integrated planning solutions for high net-worth clients and closely held businesses, and specializes in the comprehensive financial, wealth management, and estate planning for executives and business owners. In particular, he enjoys helping clients focus on the philanthropic impact of their wealth and implement solutions for the preservation of wealth.

Throughout his professional career, Bert has given back to his community through service to various cultural, educational, and professional organizations. He is a former president of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council and currently serves on the boards of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, The High Museum of Art, and Berry College. He previously served on the boards of The Woodruff Arts Center, The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, and The Atlanta Opera, and as an advisor to the Honors Program at the University of Georgia. He has played an integral role in the planned giving and capital campaigns for these and other organizations, and was a founding member of the Philanthropic Advisor Leadership Institute in Atlanta.

Bert is a native of Rome, Georgia and is the son of two schoolteachers. He and his wife Cathy have three children: Ben, a practicing attorney in Philadelphia; Matthew, a real estate professional in Charleston, SC; and Julia, a mental health therapist in Boston. Bert and Cathy are active members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church and numerous other civic and educational organizations.

Taylor has been in the financial services industry since 2012. Taylor and Bert partnered together in 2024 to form Rowan Capital Group. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2010 and later got his MBA from the University of Georgia.

He holds his Investment Series 7 and Series 66 licenses, and he is fully licensed in all product lines with which we assist our clients. As our Director of Investments and Planning, Taylor is responsible for leading and directing portfolio allocations and investment decisions in our practice. He works with Bert and the team to integrate investments, insurance, and financial planning into our clients holistic planning needs.

Taylor resides in Brookhaven with his wife Katie Drew and two boys (Jack and Watson). He enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Taylor is very involved with Marist School and serves on their Alumni Board. He also works in close partnership and is a board member of Heads Up for Harry.

Laura has over 19 years of experience in the financial services industry, and brings deep knowledge, solid professional advice and strategic guidance to our clients. She joined Bert’s team after graduating in 2004 from Covenant College, where she earned her Bachelors in Psychology.

As an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, Laura is instrumental in the development and servicing of customized insurance strategies and products for our clients. She also assists with the implementation of our clients financial plans and the servicing of their wealth management.

She has attained the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional, Chartered Financial Consultant(ChFC®), Certified Life Underwriter(CLU®), Charted Advisory for Senior Living(CASL®) designations, along with her investment Series 7 license. She is fully licensed in all product lines with which we assists our clients.

Laura resides in the Chamblee area with her husband and two sons. As a family, they enjoy soccer, travelling, reading and cooking during their leisure time.

Madison joined Bert’s team in 2013, after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Georgia, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Finance.

She has earned her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional designation, investment Series 7 and Series 66 licenses, and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. She is fully licensed in all product lines with which we assist our clients.

As our Director of Investment Operations, Madison is responsible for leading and directing all Financial Planning, Investment, and Annuity Operations within our practice. She works with Bert in creating investment plans and portfolios for our clients, and in the ongoing management of those plans and portfolios. Integrity, care, and dedication to detail comprise the very cornerstone of her work for our clients.

Madison resides in the Midtown area of Atlanta. She enjoys working out, traveling, and scoping out new restaurants to try around the city. On Saturdays, she cheers on the Georgia Bulldogs, and on Sundays, it’s the Pittsburgh Steelers. She especially loves spending time with friends and family.

Marisa graduated from Fordham University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, and earned her Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2012. She joined our team in 2016, and has earned her investment Series 7 license. She is also fully licensed in all product lines with which we assist our clients.

Marisa creates a positive and memorable experience for each of our clients, and she is primarily responsible for all aspects of new client risk-based product transactions. She also supports our wealth management operations.

Marisa enjoys being challenged and welcomes every opportunity to work with our clients and their other advisors. What she enjoys the most is interacting with clients and getting to know them on a personal level.

Marisa resides in Decatur with her husband and daughter, and enjoys running and playing tennis during her leisure time.
